This presentation is based on the clinical experiences acquired at Spandan Holistic Multidisciplinary Institute, where 279 autistic children were treated. Reduction of autistic features and rehabilitation in mainstream society of the child can be achieved through classical Homeopathic approach. The totality of the cases was perceived by taking into account sensory pattern, kinetic state, regressive state, features pertaining to affects and mood and qualified aspects.
Presentation includes in brief findings of a research project including 60 children, carried out under auspices of Central Council of Homeopathic Research, Ayush Ministry, Government of India, conducted by Spandan Holistic Institute of Applied Homoeopathy. Study conducted demonstrated effectiveness of homeopathic management in autism.
Biomedical Treatment for Children with Special Needs
4.30 pm - 5.30 pm
Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) present with impairment in social communication and restricted repetitive behaviours which vary considerably in their clinical manifestations as well as the probable underlying pathophysiology. A growing body of research suggests that the harmful effect of gut-brain axis dysfunction, oxidative stress, impaired detoxification, mitochondrial dysfunction, dysregulated methylation, immune dysfunction and neuroinflammation, as well as their interconnections are some of the important pathophysiological factors of ASD. Such pathophysiological processes can arise from the interaction between the genetic vulnerability for ASD and the environmental factors (epigenetics), such as heavy metal exposures from the environment in individuals with genetically impaired detoxification.
The term biomedical means "biological and medical". In the field of autism treatment, the term "biomedical" refers to a management approach that considers the biological basis of autism and targets those biological underpinnings (underlying pathophysiological mechanisms) as a part of an individual's medical care.
Given the uncertain and slow effects of the various commonly used educational and behavioural interventions in ASD, it is of utmost importance to target the specific biomedical abnormalities to provide holistic care for these children thus improving the treatment outcome.
